Synopsis
Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (1955) is a Disney adventure western you can watch online on iFILM. Stitched together from three television episodes, it spins the tall tales of the famed American frontiersman.
Fess Parker plays Crockett as a grinning, sharp-shooting woodsman who goes from the Creek War alongside his pal George Russel (Buddy Ebsen) to a seat in Congress, where his backwoods manners ruffle the House. The final stretch takes the pair down to Texas and the doomed stand at the Alamo. Norman Foster directs.
The film set off a full-blown Crockett craze across mid-1950s America — kids snapped up coonskin caps and "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" played on every radio dial. It's a quaint relic now, but a charming window into early Disney and how the studio manufactured folk heroes. Easygoing family viewing for a slow evening.
