Synopsis
Stones for the Rampart (Kamienie na szaniec, 2014) is a Polish war drama by Robert Gliński that you can watch online on iFILM. A Warsaw summer ends the moment September 1939 arrives: three scouts fresh out of school — Alek, Zośka and Rudy — find their plans for university swapped for life in an occupied city.
The friends slip into the underground Grey Ranks, pasting leaflets, sabotaging German vehicles, chipping away at the machine in small acts. Then the Gestapo seizes and tortures one of them, and the others plan something reckless: snatching their comrade back from a prison transport in broad daylight. Tomasz Ziętek and Marcel Sabat play boys forced to grow up in a matter of months, paying for every move.
It's drawn from Aleksander Kamiński's schoolroom classic, written during the war itself from the lives of real Polish scouts. Gliński films it without gloss, fixed on how terrifying it is to die young when you badly want to live. A film for anyone drawn to war stories about choices rather than heroics.
