Synopsis

It's 1673. Hanna (Hani Furstenberg) has spent seven years mourning a dead son. When foreign invaders threaten the village, she performs a forbidden ritual and conjures a golem — which takes the shape of the child she lost. It protects them. For a while. The further the film goes, the clearer it becomes that what Hanna created is less a weapon than a physical form of grief that was never allowed to end.
The Paz brothers work in a Jewish folk-horror tradition, and the film operates on two registers at once: a creature feature with a real threat, and a portrait of a mother whose love became something dangerous through years of not letting go. Stream The Golem (2018) online on iFILM.
