Synopsis
The Earthquake (2016) is a Russian-Armenian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Sarik Andreasyan sets his story against the Spitak disaster of that December morning in 1988 — tremors that erased dozens of Armenian towns and left over half a million people without homes.
Two men converge in the rubble. Konstantin Berezhnoy, played by Konstantin Lavronenko, is a Russian arriving home on the worst possible day. Robert Melkonyan, played by Artyom Bystrov, is the Armenian whose parents died years earlier in a crash Konstantin caused. Now they work side by side in the same rescue unit without recognising each other yet.
Maria Mironova plays Konstantin's wife. The film uses the earthquake to ask whether old grievances hold up when survival is the only thing that matters. Stream The Earthquake online on iFILM.
