Morgiana

Morgiana (1972) is a Czechoslovak Gothic horror film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Juraj Herz. Iva Janžurová plays both sisters — the poisoner and her victim.

Late 19th century. Their father's will cuts the estate unevenly: cheerful Klara gets the family castle, dour Viktoria gets a cottage. Viktoria nods, then starts measuring drops of a slow-acting poison into Klara's tea, calibrated to look like illness. It starts to work. Then blackmail surfaces, and witnesses, and Viktoria finds herself executing one unplanned act after another to keep the first one hidden.

Herz films most of it from inside Viktoria's perspective — the camera drifts through jewel-lit interiors that grow increasingly diseased in colour, the siamese cat Morgiana watching from the corners. It's a horror film where the monster narrates. Stream Morgiana (1972) online on iFILM.
