About

Synopsis

Nostalgia for the Light (Nostalgia de la luz, 2010) is a Chilean documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Patricio Guzmán traveled to the Atacama Desert — the driest and clearest place on Earth — where astronomers come to read light that left its source before humans existed.

In the same desert, a handful of women work on hands and knees, sifting sand for bone fragments of men killed and buried there by Pinochet's security apparatus in the 1970s. Same landscape. Two entirely different kinds of searching through time.

Guzmán lets the parallel build quietly rather than explaining it; the film feels like an argument made in images rather than narration. It took the César Award for Best Documentary in 2012 and remains Guzmán's most widely seen work outside Latin America. Stream Nostalgia for the Light online on iFILM — a patient, precise film about what we choose to remember and what we leave buried.
