Synopsis
Powaqqatsi (1988) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Godfrey Reggio, it's the second film in the Qatsi trilogy — a companion to Koyaanisqatsi (1982), built on the same approach: no narration, no interviews, no dialogue.
The title is a Hopi word for a being that drains the life force of others to keep itself going. Reggio shot across five countries — Brazil, Peru, Egypt, India, Nepal — to document what industrial modernization looks like from its edges. Hundreds of gold miners working bare-handed in vast open pits. Children hauling loads up mountain paths. Market stalls facing a new highway. Philip Glass wrote the score: layered, circular, hypnotic in a way that keeps pressing forward without resolution.
Where Koyaanisqatsi looked at the West from inside, this one watches the same machine from where it lands. No editorializing — just images held long enough to mean something. Stream Powaqqatsi (1988) online on iFILM.
