Synopsis

Ivan is a tractor driver from a remote Altai village. He and his wife have a union-issued voucher for a Black Sea resort — their first-ever vacation, their first time in a proper train compartment. The journey south turns into its own event: a professor (Zinovy Gerd), a smooth-talking urban stranger, and an unexpected detour through Moscow.
Shukshin scripted, directed, and starred — and the film carries his handwriting on every scene. Lidiya Fedoseyeva-Shukshina plays Ivan's wife, with Vsevolod Sanayev, Stanislav Lyubshin, and Georgy Burkov in supporting roles.
