Roman works at a metallurgical company that sponsors an orphanage in Khanty-Mansiysk. His employer suggests he take a child into guardianship. His wife Elena is on board — she sees it as the thing that will repair what has been quietly fraying in their marriage. The girl they choose, eleven-year-old Marta, doesn't want to leave her grandmother but has little say. A trip to India, Marta's long-held dream, is planned as the bonding moment. It doesn't deliver what anyone hoped. What the film gets right is its refusal to make anyone the villain: every adult genuinely means well, and that shared good intention is exactly what makes the gap between them feel real.
