Synopsis
Peter Hujar's Day (2025) is Ira Sachs's chamber drama, now available to watch online on iFILM. Ben Whishaw plays the New York photographer Peter Hujar; Rebecca Hall is his friend, the writer Linda Rosenkrantz. Two performers, one apartment, 76 minutes of talk.
It grew out of a real taped conversation from the winter of 1974 that surfaced only decades later. Linda asks Peter to walk her through a single ordinary day, hour by hour — every call, every meal, every person crossed on the street. Out of that mundane log emerges a portrait of an artist and of downtown Manhattan's bohemia, a scene living just before AIDS tore through it. There's almost no plot here; the film runs on cadence, silence and Whishaw's quietly mesmerizing voice. A small, delicate piece for anyone who loves conversation-driven cinema.
