Synopsis
Sputniki (2020) is a Russian wartime drama streaming online on iFILM, directed by Ivan Shurkhovetskiy. A medical train. Summer 1941. Commissar Danilov is assembling a crew as the Wehrmacht advances west to east.
The people he pulls together have almost nothing in common. Dr Belov is a composed intellectual whose family is stranded in besieged Leningrad. Yulia is a veteran OR nurse who has built walls around herself for years. Faina brings warmth and mischief into the steel corridors of a train that never stops moving toward the front. Nelly Uvarova and Sergey Ugryumov lead an ensemble that plays four full years of war without letting the drama tip into sentiment.
