Synopsis
"Alparslan: The Great Seljuks" (2021) is a Turkish historical drama series you can watch online on iFILM. Director Sedat İnci and lead actor Barış Arduç trace the rise of Alp-Arslan, second sultan of the Great Seljuk Empire and the ruler whose westward campaigns cracked open Anatolia for Turkic settlement.
The story is set in eleventh-century Central Asia and the Middle East. Alp-Arslan — full name Muhammad ibn Dawud — inherits a state squeezed between the Byzantine Empire to the west and the Egyptian Fatimids to the south, while factions inside the palace test his authority at every turn. A single wrong alliance could fracture the empire. Fahriye Evcen, Mehmet Özgür and a large cast populate rival courts, military councils and diplomatic negotiations — sometimes all three within a single episode.
Produced for ATV, the series ranks among the largest-scale historical projects in recent Turkish television. Viewers who finished "Resurrection: Ertugrul" and found it drifting too far into family drama will find "Alparslan" closer to statecraft — the political calculations carry real weight.
