Synopsis

France, late 1700s. Prince Leon Dalville had wealth, looks, and a wife he loved. A single night took all three: the fire killed her, and the burns left his face permanently scarred. He retreats behind a silver half-mask, feared and avoided by everyone around him. Bella Dubois arrives at his estate as a maid — her father owes Leon a debt she has decided to settle herself.
Leon's cousin Helene, obsessed with the prince, engineers a cruel wager: seduce Bella, then abandon her. The scheme unravels. What makes this period adaptation distinctive is that it refuses to soften the beast — Leon is genuinely frightening, and the romance has to earn its resolution.
