One Hundred Years of Solitude (Season 1)
The book comes to life.
Synopsis
One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad, 2024) is the long-awaited Netflix adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's Nobel Prize-winning novel — watch it online on iFILM. Seven generations of the Buendía family build, survive, and slowly destroy the fictional town of Macondo: they found it from nothing, live through civil wars, plagues, and monsoons, fall in love across the wrong bloodlines, and circle back to the same mistakes their grandparents made. Directed by Alex García López and Laura Mora, filmed entirely in Spanish with a Latin American cast.
García Márquez famously refused to sell the rights while he was alive, considering the book unfilmable. After his death in 2014, his family negotiated a deal with Netflix on the condition that the production stay true to its Colombian roots — the language, the faces, the heat. Claudio Cataño, Ruggero Pasquarelli, and Marleyda Soto lead the ensemble across multiple generations.
The magical realism is not decoration here — the dead walk back into kitchens, a carpet lifts off a courtyard floor, and time in Macondo bends without announcement. The series carries the novel's central weight: that the Buendías were always going to end exactly the way they did. Stream One Hundred Years of Solitude (2024) online on iFILM.
