Synopsis

Former criminal investigator Viktor Grishanin was running his own quiet inquiry into his father's death when someone framed him for a witness murder and put him behind bars. His way out comes from a deputy — his late father's closest friend — who stages a prison "death" during an escape attempt and smuggles Viktor out. The price is a briefing: his father had been tasked by an Eastern cultural committee with tracking down a rare relic. Other factions are already looking for the same thing.
Shot in the early post-Soviet years when the institutions were rotting from inside, the film carries that specific anxiety: a man who used to enforce the law now has no institution to stand behind.
