Synopsis
Paternal Leave (2025) is a German-Italian drama you can watch online on iFILM. Leo is fifteen. She has a name and an address on the northern Italian coast. She travels there alone to meet her biological father — a man who is, for all practical purposes, a stranger.
Director Alissa Jung keeps the camera close and the explanations sparse. Luca Marinelli plays the father: not a villain, not a hero, just someone who wasn't ready for this. The landscape is sun-lit; the conversations are not. Juli Grabenhenrich's performance as Leo anchors the whole film — she carries anger and longing at the same time, without tipping into either. No tidy reconciliation, no breakthrough speech. What the film does instead is watch two people test whether there is anything real between them.
