Synopsis
The Wait (L'attesa, 2015) is Piero Messina's hushed Italian-French drama, ready to watch online on iFILM. Inside a sprawling Sicilian villa, Anna — played by Juliette Binoche — keeps to herself, and the mirrors are draped in black cloth.
Then a young Frenchwoman named Jeanne shows up at the door. She believes Anna's son Giuseppe invited her to spend Easter here, and that the two of them are together. But Giuseppe isn't home, and Anna never quite explains why she won't call him. Left alone in the echoing rooms, the two women settle into a tense, drawn-out waiting that grows heavier by the day.
A debut from a former Sorrentino assistant, the film lives in faces and silences: slow takes, sun-bleached Sicilian light, sparse dialogue. Lou de Laage makes Jeanne's unease contagious. This one's for viewers who'd rather feel a mood than chase a plot. Stream The Wait (2015) online on iFILM.
