Synopsis

Detective Ray Tierney (Edward Norton) is pulled into the killing of four cops in Washington Heights. The deeper he digs, the uglier it gets: the shooting points to corruption, and the trail runs straight into his own family. Toward his older brother and his brother-in-law Jimmy (Colin Farrell), a cop who stopped playing by the rules long ago. The family patriarch, retired chief Francis Sr. (Jon Voight), wants the scandal buried before it sinks the Tierney name. Ray is left with a choice that has no clean answer: the law or his blood.
Director Gavin O'Connor delivers a bleak study of loyalty and its price, with a frozen New York winter pressing down as hard as the criminals.
