About

Synopsis

Shining Through (1992) is a World War II spy drama you can watch online on iFILM. Michael Douglas plays Ed Leland, a New York attorney who is actually a senior OSS officer, and Melanie Griffith plays Linda Voss — his sharp-eared secretary who figures out his real job before he tells her. Director David Seltzer adapts Susan Isaacs' 1988 bestselling novel of the same name.

When an American operative is killed in Berlin, Linda volunteers to take the posting herself. She speaks German, she can pass, and she has personal reasons for wanting to get behind enemy lines: her Jewish relatives are somewhere in the city. Posing as a German household worker, she's tasked with tracking down intelligence on a German weapon — while staying out of the Gestapo's eyeline and keeping her real motives hidden from everyone around her. Liam Neeson and John Gielgud round out the cast.

What separates this from standard wartime thrillers is Linda's character: she's stubborn, emotionally exposed and not particularly trained for what she's doing. It's that stubbornness, not any spy craft, that drives her through occupied Berlin. Stream Shining Through (1992) online on iFILM.
