The Paradine Case

The Paradine Case (1947) is an Alfred Hitchcock courtroom thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Gregory Peck plays Anthony Keane, a successful London barrister who takes on the defence of the beautiful Maddalena Paradine — accused of poisoning her blind, invalid husband. Alida Valli, Charles Laughton and Louis Jourdan round out the cast.

Keane's professional certainty that his client is innocent slides into something more dangerous. His defence strategy targets the dead man's servant, André Latour — but Maddalena warns him directly: pursue an innocent man and she will hate him for it. The courtroom scenes tighten the screws steadily, with Laughton's caustic judge presiding over the whole thing like he owns it.
