Angel and the Badman

Angel and the Badman (1947) is a John Wayne western you can watch online on iFILM. Gunfighter Quirt Evans is wounded and barely upright when his horse gives out beside a Quaker family's farm. They take the stranger in and nurse him back to health, asking nothing about the men hunting him.

As Quirt recovers, the family's daughter Penelope grows fonder of him by the day. A household where no one carries a gun and forgiveness comes easy turns out to rattle the hardened shootist more than any gunfight ever did. His past, though, refuses to stay buried. Old enemies ride closer, and sooner or later he has to choose between the pistol and the life the Worths are quietly offering him.

This was screenwriter James Edward Grant's first time directing, and he made an unusually gentle western — the real showdown happens inside the man, not on the street.
