Synopsis
The Red House (1947) is a Delmer Daves noir thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Edward G. Robinson plays Pete Morgan, a peg-legged farmer who keeps to himself and turns pale at any mention of the woods behind his land.
Pete's adopted teenage daughter Meg (Allene Roberts) talks a classmate, Nath (Lon McCallister), into helping out around the farm. The boy wants to cut home through the trees, and Pete snaps: out by an abandoned red house, something screams after dark. The warning only feeds their curiosity. Meg and Nath go looking anyway, fall for each other along the way, while Nath's old flame Tibby (Julie London) has plans of her own.
Daves shoots the backcountry like a trap, and Miklós Rózsa's nervy score makes an ordinary forest feel like a place you can't walk back out of. Robinson plays Pete not as a villain but as a man a secret has eaten alive, which lands harder than any monster. This is the kind of old thriller built on what's left unsaid rather than on blood.
