Synopsis
Dementia 13 (1963) is a low-budget Gothic horror you can watch online on iFILM — and one of Francis Ford Coppola's first directorial credits, shot when he was barely 24.
Louise's husband drops dead on a rowboat, and she immediately buries the fact to keep her grip on his family's inheritance. She talks her way into the Irish Haloran estate, where the family holds a creepy annual ritual for their drowned daughter. Her scheme: charm the grieving mother and secure her cut. Her problem: someone in the house is already wielding an axe.
Coppola made the film on Roger Corman's dime in under two weeks, using leftover sets from another production. The result is a tightly wound little thriller with real Gothic atmosphere — watchable both as a period horror and as an artifact of a legendary director's earliest work.
