Synopsis
Operation Crossbow (1965) is a wartime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Michael Anderson directs a heavyweight ensemble — Sophia Loren, George Peppard, Trevor Howard, John Mills and Anthony Quayle — in a story drawn from the Allied hunt for Hitler's rocket program.
London is taking a beating from flying bombs, and British intelligence works out that somewhere on the coast the Germans are perfecting the V-1 and V-2. Three engineers with European credentials are trained under false identities and slipped into the underground works at Peenemünde to learn how the rockets are built and guide the bombers in. Each man knows he may not come back. None of them suspects that a double agent is already inside, waiting.
The film keeps cutting to the German side, where the designers speak their own language — an unusual touch for a spy picture of its era. It plays things dry, with little flag-waving, and treats intelligence work as something paid for in lives. A solid pick for fans of old war movies and sabotage tales.
