Synopsis
Ghosts of Mississippi (1996) is Rob Reiner's courtroom drama, free to watch online on iFILM. It reopens a real murder case the state of Mississippi had let slide for almost three decades.
In 1963 civil rights organizer Medgar Evers was gunned down in his own driveway. The shooter walked twice — two all-white juries, two deadlocked verdicts. Twenty-six years later assistant DA Bobby DeLaughter (Alec Baldwin) decides to try the case again. Myrlie Evers (Whoopi Goldberg), the widow, had never let it die. Evidence has gone missing, witnesses have aged out, and the accused (James Woods) still trusts the old South to cover for him.
Reiner skips the chase-movie beats for something slower: a Southern prosecutor pushing against his own people and a justice system built to forget. Buried under heavy age makeup, James Woods makes the unrepentant racist genuinely sickening — a turn that earned him an Oscar nomination. Stream Ghosts of Mississippi (1996) online on iFILM.
