Synopsis
Spetters (1980) is a brash coming-of-age drama from Paul Verhoeven's Dutch years, and you can watch it online on iFILM — a raw, provocative film about small-town kids hooked on motocross.
Three friends in a sleepy Dutch town live for the dirt track. Rien and Hans want to turn pro and idolize champion racer Gerrit Witkamp, while their mechanic Eef dreams of escaping a dead-end life. All three fall for Fientje, who runs a snack stand at the races and is just as desperate to get out. Then fate wrecks their plans without mercy — injury, money, betrayal.
When it opened in 1980 the film caused an uproar over its frank sex, violence and cruelty. This is Verhoeven unfiltered, long before RoboCop and Basic Instinct. A young Rutger Hauer turns up in a small part alongside Renée Soutendijk and Jeroen Krabbé. Not one for the squeamish. Stream Spetters (1980) online on iFILM.
