Synopsis
Dìdi (弟弟) (2024) — watch online this quiet, semi-autobiographical drama-comedy on iFILM. Director Sean Wang sets the story in the Bay Area, summer of 2008: thirteen-year-old Chris Wang (Izaac Wang) has eight weeks before high school begins and no idea who he wants to be.
His Taiwanese American mother, played by Joan Chen, smothers him with love he can't stand. His older sister is checked out. So Chris turns to a crew of older skaters, lies about his age on MySpace, and films everything around him — hoping a camera might help him figure out what none of it means. The cringe and the tenderness arrive in equal measure.
Sean Wang drew on his own adolescence for this debut feature, and it shows in every awkward silence and bad haircut. Small in scale, but precise where it counts — a coming-of-age film that earns its emotion without telegraphing it. Stream Dìdi (2024) online on iFILM.
