Synopsis
The Bishop's Wife (1947) is Henry Koster's charming Christmas fantasy — watch it online on iFILM. Cary Grant plays Dudley, an angel dispatched to help Bishop Henry Brougham (David Niven), who has spent months chasing donations for a grand new cathedral and lost track of everything that mattered to him before the project consumed him.
Dudley does help — just not in the way Henry expected. He goes ice skating with the kids, rekindles a retired professor's (Monty Woolley) passion for his long-unfinished book, and spends so much time with the bishop's wife Julia (Loretta Young) that Henry grows quietly alarmed. An angel who is better at Henry's own life than Henry is turns out to be an uncomfortable gift.
The film competed for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Grant's easy, unhurried performance carries the whole thing — he makes warmth look effortless. Stream The Bishop's Wife (1947) online on iFILM.
