Synopsis
Odd Man Out (1947) is a British noir thriller by Carol Reed that you can watch online on iFILM. James Mason stars as Johnny McQueen, a wounded Irish nationalist leader hunted through the fog-soaked streets of Belfast after a botched robbery goes wrong. 116 minutes.
The heist falls apart fast. McQueen slips away with a gunshot wound and no way home. What follows is a night-long manhunt across a city where every door either opens in fear or stays shut. Some people try to shield him. Others sell him out. Belfast itself — the wet cobblestones, the narrow alleys, the faces in doorways — feels as dangerous as the police closing in.
Reed made this two years before The Third Man, and cinematographer Robert Krasker's expressionist shadows are already fully formed. It's a film about moral exhaustion as much as pursuit — no heroes, just people making bad choices under pressure. For anyone who loves the dark postwar European crime tradition, this is one of the benchmarks. Stream Odd Man Out (1947) online on iFILM.
