Synopsis
Call the Midwife (2012), Season 1 is a BBC period drama you can watch online on iFILM — six episodes that follow nurse Jenny Lee as she arrives in London's poor East End and discovers Nonnatus House is a convent, not a hospital.
The first season eases you into 1950s Poplar through Jenny's eyes. Babies arrive in cramped tenements with no running water; her very first patient is expecting her twenty-fifth child. From there the cases pile up — an old soldier with ulcerated legs, an infant snatched from her pram while the whole neighbourhood joins the search, a couple bracing for a loss no midwife can prevent. Around the deliveries, Jenny earns the trust of the sharp-tongued Sister Evangelina, and shy Chummy fights to live life on her own terms.

When Peggy’s brother is diagnosed with cancer, Jenny and the nuns are called upon to care for him. Jenny gets to know the siblings better. The Nonnatus House residents get involved in Fred’s latest money-making scheme which involves a pig called Evie.

When Chummy's imperious mother visits and disapproves of Peter Noakes, Chummy defies her mother and has her wedding on her own terms. Senile Sister Monica Joan is arrested for shoplifting.
