Synopsis
The Bodyguard from Beijing (中南海保鑣, 1994) is a Hong Kong action thriller starring Jet Li, available to watch online on iFILM. Michelle Yeung becomes the lone witness to a murder, and suddenly her life is worth nothing. To keep her breathing, her boyfriend hires an elite bodyguard from Beijing — a man trained to shield top government officials.
She doubts the quiet, by-the-book stranger at first. That doesn't last. One street ambush is all it takes to reveal a one-man army who drops a crowd of gunmen in seconds. Then comes the part no assignment prepared him for: feelings stir between guard and witness, and duty collides with the heart for the first time. Li plays the contrast beautifully, all icy discipline outside and quiet tenderness underneath.
Director Corey Yuen, a longtime Li collaborator, stages the fights in classic mid-90s Hong Kong style — fast, hard-hitting, full of acrobatics and free of digital crutches. Fans often call it the local answer to Hollywood's The Bodyguard, only with real kung fu where the melodrama would be. For Jet Li devotees it's essential viewing.
