Synopsis

Jack is a London solicitor who had everything planned — until his wife Sarah dies giving birth to their daughter. He spends the next several months demonstrating he is spectacularly bad at both grief and single fatherhood. Amy (Samantha Mathis), an American who ends up as the nanny more by accident than design, has no formal qualifications either, which turns out not to matter. The supporting cast is quietly strong: Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins, and Ian McKellen each bring enough to their roles that the film never feels like it's running on Grant alone.
