Synopsis
Up! (1976) is Russ Meyer's cult sexploitation comedy, available to watch online on iFILM. A recluse named Adolf Schwartz — suspiciously close to a certain historical namesake — turns up dead in his bathtub. Around the same time a mysterious woman rolls into a nearby town, and an absurd whirl of lust and violence kicks off.
The murder is just an excuse. Meyer wasn't making a whodunit but an over-cranked satire: frantic cutting, cartoon characters, and a running nude "Greek chorus" narration delivered by Kitten Natividad. Raven De La Croix carries the lead. Eighty minutes blast by so fast you never get the chance to take any of it seriously.
The screenplay came from a young Roger Ebert — yes, the future critic — writing under a pseudonym as Meyer's longtime collaborator. This is late-period Meyer undiluted: vulgar, self-mocking, deliberately excessive. Strictly for fans of 1970s trash cinema and anyone who treats exploitation film as a genuine American oddity.
