Synopsis
Robin and Marian (1976) is a late-career adventure directed by Richard Lester — watch online on iFILM. Sean Connery plays Robin Hood as a middle-aged man coming home from the Crusades; Audrey Hepburn, returning to film after a seven-year absence, plays Marian as a woman who made her peace with the life he left behind.
King Richard is dead. Robin and Little John limp back to Sherwood exhausted and out of step with the England they find. The Sheriff of Nottingham is still there — older too, but still in his post. And Marian is in a convent. Robin wants what he always wanted: to fight, to win, to be with her. The world has moved on. He hasn't.
What Lester made is less an adventure film than a meditation on loyalty and the cost of a life spent as a legend. The supporting cast — Robert Shaw, Richard Harris, Ian Holm, Nicol Williamson — is the kind of ensemble that simply doesn't assemble anymore. James Goldman's script gives every character a real death, a real age, a real regret. Stream Robin and Marian (1976) online on iFILM.
