Captain Planet and the Planeteers (Seasons 1–6)

Captain Planet and the Planeteers (1990) is a TBS animated series — watch all seasons online on iFILM. Created with Ted Turner's backing, the show set out to do something few cartoons attempt: frame environmental destruction as genuine conflict worth fighting, not just a backdrop.

Earth spirit Gaia recruits five teenagers from different parts of the world and gives each a ring tied to one force of nature — Earth, Fire, Water, Wind, and Heart. When eco-villains like Hoggish Greedly and Zarm push toward real catastrophe, the five combine their powers to summon Captain Planet. Every episode tackles a specific threat: oil spills, deforestation, air pollution, poaching. The show doesn't soften any of it for the audience.

Six seasons ran from 1990 to 1996, producing over a hundred episodes. The guest voice cast rotated widely and included Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Curry, Meg Ryan, Sting, and Martin Sheen, among others.
