Synopsis
Two Rode Together (1961) is a John Ford western with James Stewart that you can watch online on iFILM. Town marshal Guthrie McCabe pockets a cut of the local saloon's take and believes in little beyond his own paycheck. Then the Army hands him a job he'd happily turn down if the money weren't so good.
Lieutenant Jim Gary and his cavalry ask McCabe to ride into Comanche country and bring back white settlers held captive for years. The marshal agrees for the reward, only to find that the "rescued" have grown into another way of life entirely, while the families waiting back home want only the people they remember. Richard Widmark plays the straight-arrow officer beside Stewart, with Shirley Jones and Linda Cristal in support.
Made just before his later work, this is Ford turning a cold eye on his own frontier myth: the homecoming proves harsher than the captivity ever was. A hundred and nine minutes of dusty bitterness and easy chemistry between its two leads. This is the darker, disillusioned Ford — best for viewers who've seen the classics and want their flip side.
