Synopsis
McLintock! (1963) is a classic Hollywood western comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. John Wayne plays George Washington McLintock, a self-made cattle baron who owns most of the county and commands genuine respect — until his estranged wife Katharine, played by Maureen O'Hara, rides back into town.
Katharine isn't there to reconcile. She wants custody of their daughter and would prefer McLintock to have as little say in the matter as possible. Meanwhile, government officials are circling his land, and a local dispute with Native American settlers requires McLintock to talk down a potential conflict before it turns violent. He's juggling more than one fight at a time — and only some of them are fistfights.
Wayne and O'Hara had worked together before, and by 1963 their on-screen sparring had a well-worn groove to it. She gives as good as she gets, which is what makes the comedy land. Viewed today, the film is as much a window into what Hollywood Westerns were doing in the early 1960s as it is straight entertainment. Stream McLintock! online on iFILM.
