Synopsis
The Bad Sleep Well (悪い奴ほどよく眠る, 1960) is Akira Kurosawa's corporate thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Toshiro Mifune plays Koichi Nishi, a man who spent years positioning himself for a very specific wedding — to the daughter of the company vice president he holds responsible for his father's death.
Nishi's father was pushed into suicide to cover up a bribery scandal. The revenge plan is patient: climb inside the corporation, earn the trust of the guilty, marry into the family. Kurosawa transplanted the bones of Hamlet into postwar Japan's business world, where bureaucratic complicity replaces royal poisoning. Masayuki Mori, Takashi Shimura and Kyū Sazanka round out a cast that makes every conference room feel like a trap.
This is Kurosawa stripped of period costume — no battlefields, no feudal code, just fluorescent offices and men who sleep well precisely because they buried the evidence. It lands harder for being so ordinary. Watch The Bad Sleep Well (1960) online on iFILM.
