Shin Kamen Rider (2023) is a Japanese sci-fi action film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Hideaki Anno. It reimagines the 1971 tokusatsu television series for cinema, starring Sosuke Ikematsu and Minami Hamabe.

College student Takeshi Hongo is seized by SHOCKER, a shadowy organisation that surgically transforms him into a cyborg built to serve their plans. Before the conditioning is complete, he escapes alongside Ruriko Midorikawa, whose father helped engineer the project. Hongo is now a weapon with no handler — and the only logical use of that power is to turn it back on SHOCKER itself.

Anno made this as part of the same revisionist cycle that gave us his Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman. The approach is consistent: treat a beloved property with full seriousness, strip out nostalgia, and ask what the original myth actually costs the person living it.
