Synopsis
Frankenstein Conquers the World (フランケンシュタイン対地底怪獣, 1965) — watch online on iFILM. Ishiro Honda, the director behind the original 1954 Godzilla, made this Toho production that grafts the Western horror legend onto Japanese atomic history. Near the end of WWII, the Nazis ship Frankenstein's immortal heart to a Hiroshima laboratory. The bomb falls. The heart survives.
Years later, a feral boy is found wandering Hiroshima's streets — and keeps growing. American scientist Nick Adams joins Japanese colleagues to study the creature as the underground kaiju Baragon erupts for the final confrontation. Honda plays the nuclear subtext completely straight, which is exactly what gives the film its weight.
