Destroy All Monsters

Destroy All Monsters (怪獣総進撃, 1968) is a Toho kaiju sci-fi film directed by Ishiro Honda — watch it online on iFILM. By the late 1990s, every giant creature the Earth has produced — Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and eight more — has been corralled onto a monitored island called Monsterland. The arrangement works, right up until an alien race called the Kilaaks seizes control of all of them at once.

Within hours, monsters are attacking New York, Moscow, and Paris simultaneously. A crew of astronauts is scrambled to locate and destroy the Kilaak base before the rampage goes further. The film saves its biggest card for the end: eleven monsters converging on a resurrected King Ghidorah in a battle that Honda designed as the grand finale of Toho's entire first monster era.

Honda intended this as a closing chapter — a send-off to the kaiju cycle he helped build from the 1954 original. The special effects are entirely practical: miniature cities, wire-pulled suits, optically composited monster armies.
