Synopsis
Mrs. Miniver (1942) is a wartime drama directed by William Wyler — watch it online on iFILM. MGM's Greer Garson plays Kay Miniver, an English housewife whose quiet suburban life falls apart the moment Britain enters the war. Walter Pidgeon is her husband Clem, and together they anchor one of Hollywood's most humane portraits of a country at war.
Son Vin leaves Oxford for the Royal Air Force. Clem takes his small motorboat across the Channel toward Dunkirk alongside hundreds of other civilians. Kay faces a wounded German soldier in her own kitchen one night — pistol in hand, nowhere to run. Wyler keeps the scale deliberately small: no generals, no battle maps, just a family trying to hold together. President Roosevelt reportedly had the film translated and dropped as leaflets over occupied Europe, believing it mattered.
The picture took six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress. Wyler himself shipped out to shoot wartime documentaries before the film even opened. Stream Mrs. Miniver (1942) online on iFILM.
