Synopsis
I'm Not Ashamed (2016) is a drama directed by Brian Baugh — watch it online on iFILM. Masey McLain plays Rachel Joy Scott, a high school student whose personal journals became the foundation of the film. On April 20, 1999, Rachel was the first student killed during the Columbine High School shooting. The movie doesn't open on that day. It opens on the one before it, and the one before that.
The film moves through two years of Rachel's ordinary teenage life: friendships, faith, the social pressures of fitting in, the personal writing she kept going even when things were hard. Director Baugh and studio Pure Flix built the story from the journal entries directly. Jennifer O'Neill and Sadie Robertson appear in supporting roles alongside McLain.
What makes the film uncommon for its subject matter is the refusal to center the attack. The Columbine shooting is the end of the story, not its subject. For viewers who know the event only as a headline, this is something closer to a portrait — one girl's specific, handwritten account of who she was. Stream I'm Not Ashamed (2016) online on iFILM.
