Synopsis

The Age of Shadows (밀정, 2016) is a South Korean historical thriller directed by Kim Jee-woon that you can watch online on iFILM. Late 1920s, Japanese-occupied Korea: a resistance cell is attempting to smuggle explosives from Shanghai into Seoul to strike Japanese military and government targets. The colonial authorities know something is coming — they just need someone on the inside.

That someone is Lee Jung-chul, a Korean-born officer in the Japanese colonial police, played by Song Kang-ho with the kind of controlled ambiguity that makes every scene feel like it could tip either way. His assignment: infiltrate a resistance network led by the cool-headed Gong Yoo. Two men, both capable, neither fully readable. The cat-and-mouse dynamic at the heart of the film keeps shifting — who is hunting whom, and who will blink first.

Kim Jee-woon takes 140 minutes and uses all of them deliberately — slow pressure, layered loyalties, and a historical backdrop that makes the stakes feel concrete. Stream The Age of Shadows (2016) online on iFILM.
