Synopsis

The Hot Spot (1990) is an American neo-noir crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Dennis Hopper and based on Charles Williams' novel Hell Hath No Fury, it stars Don Johnson as a drifter who rolls into a small Texas town and immediately starts calculating his options.

Harry Madox takes a job at a car dealership, sizes up the bank down the street, and runs straight into two women: the boss's wife Dolly (Virginia Madsen), who is dangerous in ways he recognises, and Gloria (Jennifer Connelly), the bookkeeper, who complicates everything further. Harry is not a complicated man, but the situation keeps getting ahead of him.

Hopper shoots it at a slow, deliberate pace that matches the Texas heat — Jack Nitzsche's jazz score drifts through every scene like smoke. This is old-fashioned noir played completely straight: no wink, no irony, no hurry. Johnson is understated in a way he rarely got credit for, and Madsen is genuinely unsettling.
