Catchfire

Catchfire (1990) is Dennis Hopper's crime thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. Anne, an artist, accidentally witnesses a mob killing — and the mob sends a contract killer after her.

Anne drops her whole life, changes her name and hides out in Seattle with a job at an ad agency. But Milo, the mob's hitman, studies his target so closely that he falls for her before he ever catches up. When he corners Anne in New Mexico, he turns on his own bosses, and from there the two run from the mob and the FBI at once. Hopper plays Milo himself, with Jodie Foster as Anne, alongside Vincent Price, Dean Stockwell, John Turturro and Charlie Sheen.

One odd footnote: Hopper refused to put his name on the theatrical cut after the studio recut it, hiding instead behind the Alan Smithee pseudonym. The result is a strange hybrid of noir thriller and doomed romance, where Stockholm syndrome gets sold as true love.
