Synopsis
The Preacher's Wife (1996) is a Christmas fantasy comedy directed by Penny Marshall — watch it online on iFILM. Denzel Washington plays Dudley, an angel sent down after a struggling Harlem pastor named Henry Biggs quietly prays for help. Courtney B. Vance is Henry, so consumed by his congregation's troubles and a property developer threatening to bulldoze his church that his marriage to choir director Julia has gone quiet. Whitney Houston plays Julia.
Dudley turns out to be charming, practically useful, and entirely too interested in Julia for a heavenly messenger. He helps with the kids, fixes things, and handles the developer — while Henry barely notices his wife is blooming again in the company of someone who actually pays attention. The gospel and jazz on the soundtrack give Houston room to sing, and she does.
The film doesn't aim for sophistication and doesn't need it. It's warm, direct, and generous in the way the best holiday movies are — it delivers exactly what the premise promises without hedging or winking at the audience. Stream The Preacher's Wife (1996) online on iFILM.
