Synopsis
The Amusement Park (2021) is George Romero's lost horror film, now available to watch online on iFILM. A tidy old gentleman in a white suit walks into a fairground expecting an ordinary summer afternoon, and instead drops into a waking nightmare.
Shot back in 1973 for a Lutheran charity, the picture was meant to be a gentle lesson about aging. Romero did the opposite. The park becomes a brutal model of society, where the elderly are cheated, shoved aside, and discarded. Ticket lines, rides, a fortune teller, a bumper-car crash — it all congeals into one long, anxious dream. The clients found the result too disturbing and shelved the reels for nearly fifty years. Lincoln Maazel plays the lead, and Romero himself turns up on camera.
Restored and released in 2021, its 54 minutes hit harder than many feature-length horrors. It is essential for Romero fans and anyone drawn to social commentary smuggled inside a scare. Stream The Amusement Park online on iFILM.
