At fifteen, orphan Jolene marries young and watches the marriage fall apart almost at once. What follows is a decade on the move across America: foster homes, drifters, a tattoo artist, a mobster, a painter. Every stop hands her a little love and a fresh wound. Directed by Dan Ireland from an E. L. Doctorow story, the film rests entirely on Chastain, who ages on screen from teenager to grown woman opposite Rupert Friend, Dermot Mulroney and Chazz Palminteri.
