Synopsis

In the near future, Otone Komoto — a Tokyo architect — and her husband Kensuke, who runs a construction firm, welcome a humanoid robot into their home as their son. Ordinary life folds around him: meals, silences, small conversations. The film's central question arrives quietly: what does it mean to insist on someone's humanity when you can't be certain they have it?
Kore-eda's Shoplifters claimed the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2018. Since then he's moved between languages — The Truth in French, Broker in Korean — always circling the same question about family and chosen kinship.
